The project development objective is to ensure conservation of globally significant biodiversity in the Andean Paramo by creating an enabling environment for the improved livelihoods of Paramo stakeholders based on the conservation and sustainable use of the ecosystemâs natural resources. The project will have 5 outcomes: (i) Adequate conservation friendly practices for productive activities, zoning and conservation strategies implemented at nine páramo sites; (ii) Key conservation and sustainable use supporting policies are accepted at different governmental levels and by non governmental groups; (iii) Increased technical capacity of Paramo inhabitants, field technicians and local governmental and non-governmental organizations for Paramo conservation; (iv) Increased awareness and information about the importance of the Paramo ecosystem among key decision makers and the rural and urban population related to Paramo; and (v) A replication strategy of the project agreed, including its mechanism for implementation. |
